Choosing our ingredients

We mix our own oils and butters by hand, choosing them for the specific qualities they give our soap. Then, we saponify the soap ourselves because we are passionate about the soap making process and want to know intimately every ingredient that goes into our soap. We’re now starting to make our own fragrances and distill our own essential oils as well! We are simply enthralled by the ability to hand-select every ingredient that makes our bars unique.

We always combine different oils and butters to bring out the best qualities of each and give you the unique sudsing experience you deserve. Take a look at some of our favorite oils and butters and why we use them:

  • Aloe butter is smooth and has very little natural color, making it a great base for vibrantly colored bars. Aloe butter is high in lauric acid which creates a bar with lots of suds! It is also high in vitamins C, E, B12, antioxidants, and folic acid for nourishing and rejuvenating properties.

  • Canola oil is a fabulous conditioner! It’s like a lotion that leaves your skin feeling supple and nourished.

  • Castor oil is very sticky, which helps stabilize the bubbles created when using our soap. It also has conditioning properties and helps create a substantial lather. Castor oil also contains vitamin E, and omega 9 and omega 6 fatty acids.

  • Cocoa butter alone is enough to make a bar smell like chocolate with no added fragrance! It is great at improving the hardness and longevity of our bars and also adds a bit of conditioning and creaminess. Cocoa butter also creates a natural barrier to protect your skin and keep it hydrated.

  • Coconut oil is a staple in our soap making process. We use 76 degree coconut oil that melts easily, but hardens well to create a firm bar. It also creates a lot of bubbles and is great at washing away stubborn dirt. Coconut oil is rich in vitamin E, making it a good emollient for soft skin.

  • Mango seed butter is a favorite in our home. It is tropical and quite firm which helps create a bar that will naturally last longer. It is also equally great at conditioning and creating a creamy lather. Mango seed butter is also high in antioxidants that may help reduce cellular damage. Along with vitamins E and C, this may also help prevent signs of premature aging. This butter is also great at forming a protective layer to help keep your skin hydrated.

  • Olive oil is high in oleic acid which makes it a great conditioner. It is a common ingredient in many of our bars due to its versatility. Olive oil is a great skin moisturizer and contains vitamins E, A, and K, and antioxidants.

  • Pomegranate seed oil makes you feel like island royalty! It is naturally reddish in color, which makes it a unique oil to work with. It contributes to our bars extra conditioning properties. Pomegranate seed oil contains vitamins C and K, folate, and potassium.

  • Shea butter is naturally sticky and semi-hard. When used in a bar, it helps the bar last longer, create creamy bubbles, and condition your skin. Shea butter also contains vitamins A, E, and F making it a great emollient to help soften and sooth your skin.

  • Sweet almond oil is a strong conditioner and also acts as a carrier oil for our fragrances to help them last longer. Sweet almond oil is an emollient and contains vitamins E, A, and B-complex, and zinc, magnesium, and calcium for extra nourishment for your skin.
